Issue Button text that contains a line break
followed by an additional line or lines of text
will show in the Property inspector with a
double-pipe "||" between the lines of characters.
Some users may see the text of a multiple-line
button as all lines of text merged together in a
single line rather than including the double
pipes.
If you select the entire line in the
Property inspector and change the text, this will
remove the "||" and place the new button text on a
single line. Typing a "||" in the text field only
puts those characters in the button text.
Note: On Macintosh OS X, the Property inspector
includes all lines of text with the line breaks
intact, and users must simply scroll to the
separate lines using the arrow keys.
Reason This is a limitation in the Property
inspector. When a selected button has more than
one line of text, the Property inspector will
display the "||" between the lines of text, or
will display multiple lines of text as a single
line of text.
Solution: Modify an existing button
To update or change the button text without
losing the line breaks, follow the steps
below:
1 |
In the Property inspector, highlight the
text before the "||" and type the new text for
your first line. For users who see only a single
line of text, select only the characters that
make up the first line and type the new
text. |
|
 |
2 |
Highlight the text after the "||" and
enter the text for the second line. Continue
this process for each additional line of text in
the button. For users who see only a single line
of text, select only the characters that make up
the next line of text and type the new
text. |
Note: As long as the
original "||" that appears between each line of
text in the Property inspector is not altered, you
will not lose the line breaks.
Create a new button from an
existing single-line button If you
need to make a new button containing multiple
lines of text from an existing button with a
single line of text, do the steps below:
1
|
Duplicate the original button in the
Library panel by dragging the button icon down
to the New Symbol button at the bottom right of
the Library panel. This will create a duplicate
of the original button symbol with the same name
as the original button symbol followed by the
number 1 or an increment of 1. |
2 |
Once the button symbol is duplicated,
double-click the new button symbol in the
Library panel. From the Symbol Properties dialog
box, click the Edit button to open the Button
Editor. |
3 |
Within the Button editor, you may change
the text to include two or more lines. By
creating a new button symbol in step 2, these
modifications will not affect the original
button. |
